Twenty One Pilots just released their seventh studio album, Clancy, with a world premiere on iHeartRadio, existing as a collection of 13-tracks that offer an end to the Blurryface narrative, born almost nine years ago to the day in 2015.
The iconic duo built excitement for the long-awaited release by dropping brand new, emotionally-charged single, "The Craving" just a few days before the record arrived. Fans gathered at Clancy listening parties across the globe in the days leading up to the release and were given the exclusive opportunity to listen to the record in its entirety before the rest of the world got to stream it.
Bandmates Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun performed at intimate venues in Berlin, Mexico City, and New York City days before Clancy's unveiling, and plan to wrap the brief, yet extremely special run of shows in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio with an exciting release day concert on Friday (May 24). What's more, the "Heathens" hitmakers are set to promote their latest album on the road as part of their "biggest headline tour ever" (per a press release) beginning in August. Tickets for "The Clancy World Tour" are on sale now via the artists' website.
Clancy features previously released tracks “Backslide,” “Next Semester” and “Overcompensate,” in addition to "Oldies Station," "Snap Back," and "Navigating," to name a few. Each single has its own music video, detailed by the duo themselves in an exclusive album interview with iHeartRadio, that invites fans into the vision that is the energetic, yet emotional new record.
According to Billboard, "Clancy" is actually a character, created by Joseph and Dun, that represents the Grammy-Award winning duo's "insecurities and anxieties." Brought to life in 2018's Trench, the story of Clancy begins in fictional world Dema, just as character Blurryface takes a backseat.
Clancy, much like Twenty One Pilots' other masterpieces, seamlessly personifies emotion and draws us into a fictional world that addresses mental health through characters, situations, and locations.
