Kobe Bryant Honored at NBA All-Star Game with Touching Tributes

69th NBA All-Star Game

The 2020 NBA All-Star game took place at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and featured tons of tributes honoring the late Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

A highlights package produced and soundtracked by Dr. Dre opened up the show featuring new music and classic hit, "California Love."

Magic Johnson then kicked off the 69th annual sports show with a special message admitting that everyone is hurting bad.

"We'll never see another basketball player quite like Kobe, scoring 81 points in one game, scoring 60 points in his last game, and then winning five NBA championships. But what I'm really proud about when we think about Kobe Bryant... he was passionate about being a great father, husband, filmmaker -- young man won an Oscar -- so we all are hurting," he said. "This is a tough time for the whole NBA family, and if I can get you all to rise right quick."

During his speech, Johnson also honored the late NBA commissioner David Stern, who passed earlier this year on January 1st.

"All I want you to, just for David and Kobe, just hold hands... we need to embrace each other," Johnson continued. "If we could just have it quiet for eight seconds," he asked of the crowd, respecting the significance of Kobe's jersey number for the first half of his career.

"He was always there for all of us, in one way or another. So, to pay tribute to Kobe, Chicago's own Jennifer Hudson," Johnson said, introducing the emotional performance.

Hudson set to stage in an elegant deep purple dress performing "For All We Know (We May Never Meet Again)" as beautiful images of Kobe and Gianna displayed on a screen behind her.

Chicago rapper, Common, then took the stage kicking up a rap honoring legends from his hometown (Michael Jordan, Barack Obama, etc.) and Bryant.

"A king named Kobe Bryant," Common rapped with a luminescent purple and gold light illuminating the arena. "Even in the darkest times, you'll feel Kobe's light."

Headlining act for the show, Chance the Rapper, also gave tribute to the Bryants by performing "I Was A Rock," a track written initially for Muhammad Ali.

"Diamonds" singer Normani also took to the AT&T Pregame Concert to tribute Kobe in a dress styled after Kobe's Laker jersey.

Team LeBron took the win for the All-Star game, concluding with a157-155 win over Team Giannis. Kawhi Leonard was then presented with the very first Kobe Bryant All-Star Game MVP award.

"I think it's just another great deed of our great commissioner, Adam Silver," Lebron James said. "Just for him to think of that and be able to rename the MVP trophy after Kobe. What that guy meant to our league, his inspiration around players that are in the league, of kids that isn't in the league, former players and so on and so on.

"Every time Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and his teammates ran down the court, I seen the back of them, No. 24. I noticed my finger band that has a 24 on it. His legacy is living on every single day with us."
