Airplane Almost Hits Van Crossing The Runway In Missouri

An airplane taking off from Springfield-Branson National Airport in Missouri almost hit a van that was driving across the runway. Authorities released surveillance video of the close call, which occurred on June 27th.

In the video, the van can be seen driving across the runway as an Envoy Air jet with 50 passengers and three crew members quickly approaches. The van manages to get out of the way of the oncoming jet seconds before they would have collided.

According to KY3, the van driver, identified as Jim Brown, was on his way to a barbecue with two other employees and they decided to cut across the runway to save time. Brown said that air traffic controllers gave him permission to drive across the runway but as they started to cross, one of the passengers screamed out that a plane was bearing down on them.

Brown accelerated and managed to get clear of the oncoming plane just seconds before a potentially fatal collision. He immediately reported the terrifying incident to his supervisor.

The airport issued a statement saying they "are reviewing internal operating procedures," and are awaiting the final report from the National Transportation Safety Board.
